3 Ways to a Successful Indoor Herb Garden

It is a common misconception that herbs are impossible to be grown indoors, not having an outside garden space does not mean you can’t enjoy fresh home grown herbs.  Even if you have garden space outside, indoor gardening can be practiced during the winter season.

Here are three tested tips on how to grow herbs indoor successfully:

  1. Ample amount of sunlight.  Not having enough sunlight will compromise the flavor of the herbs, this is why it is important that your plants have plenty of light.  A clear indication that your herb garden is not getting enough needed sunlight is when its stems are long and week and cannot hold the leaves of the herbs.  If there’s not much natural light coming to the room, you can buy grow lights from your local hardware shops.  This lights are specially designed to replicate the sunlight and will help your plants flourish.
  2. Proper Humidity.  As we heat up our room during winter, the air gets dry, this is not good for the herbs planted inside the room.  Investing on the humidifier will be a good step, but the more economical way is to place pots full of pebbles and water near the plants.  This simple and cheap solution is very effective since when the water evaporates, the herbs in your garden will be nourished.
  3. Make your herbs pest free.  In order to get good yield from your indoor herb garden, you have to make sure that the plants are free from pest.  The best solution to ensure that your indoor herb garden will be pest free is to wash them with warm soapy water.  For small pots, you can dip the plant in a bucket full of warm soapy water while for big pots, spraying the plants with warm soapy water will do the trick.

Following the simple tips above will ensure that your indoor herb garden would flourish and will give you good yields no matter what the season may be.
